Breckenridge Distillery is tucked away on airport road on the North end of Breckenridge. By Spring of 2016 you won't be able to miss it as they are in the process of building and opening a new facility. We arrived at the distillery about 45 minutes before closing hoping to grab a quick drink since we were in the area and wanted to explore all Breckenridge has to offer. We were pleasently surprised to discover that we were able to schedule ourselves for a tour at 4:30, the last tour of the day, and to our even greater delight we ended up being the only two visitors on the tour. While there was not a lot to see to the current distilling facility, our tour guide gave us a fascinating history of the distillery, whiskey laws, and their plans for the future. At the very end we were taken to a cozy tasting room where we were able to try all of their spirits including their world famous bourbon/whiskey, vodka, chile infused vodka, rum, and bitters. My personal favorite was the chile vodka which had a nice spicy flavor that didn't burn your throat on the way down. What makes this distillery extra special to me, though, is that this is the first time in my life I have tried bourbon/whiskey and enjoyed the taste without the burning sensation that normally accompanies the spirit. Needless to say, we left with a bottle of bourbon/whiskey which we are looking forward to enjoying once the snow hits.
